The In-Between with T1D
The In-Between with T1D

If you live with type 1 diabetes (T1D), you already know the soundtrack: highs that scream, lows that hijack your attention, numbers that feel like they’re announcing your worth to the world.

It’s dramatic.

It’s relentless.

And it’s the part of life with T1D we’re taught to focus on from the very beginning.

But here’s the thing no one really says out loud: Most of your life with T1D is not lived in those extremes.

Not your blood sugars.

Not your emotions.

Not your progress.

Most of your life is lived in the in-between—quiet, steady, unremarkable, and somehow the hardest to see.

We’ve been trained to notice the outliers and ignore the evidence that we’re doing better than we think we are.

We Call It Failure, Even When It’s Not

Think about the last time you got frustrated with your numbers.

You probably fixated on the spike.

Or the miscalculated dose.

Or the low that interrupted your sleep, your workout, your peace.

But did you notice the part where you recovered?

The part where you problem-solved?

The part where your body listened to the correction you gave it?

Probably not.

We’re wired to spotlight the chaos and overlook the comeback.

The Loud Truth: The Extremes Get All the Attention

Highs and lows demand action.

They ping our phones.

They force us to respond.

They shape our days in ways other people will never fully understand.

Of course, they’re memorable—they’re loud.

But when we only measure ourselves by the loud moments, it’s easy to believe we’re doing worse than we actually are.

The reality? Most of us spend far more time in range—emotionally and physically—than we give ourselves credit for.

We just don’t celebrate the middle ground because it feels too… ordinary.

But ordinary is where life happens.

Ordinary is where resilience grows.

Ordinary is where you’ve been succeeding quietly, over and over, without ceremony.

The Quiet Truth: T1D Is Lived in the In-Between

The in-between is the morning you wake up steady, even if yesterday was messy.

It’s the correction that works.

It’s the meal you navigated with intuition instead of fear.

It’s the walk you took because your body asked for movement, not punishment.

It’s the choice to keep going, keep trying, keep caring—even when you’re tired.

These aren’t “little things.”These are the things that make a life.

T1D is not just a series of highs and lows—it’s the cadence of everything in between.

And if you can learn to see that space, honor it, and actually live in it?

Your relationship with diabetes shifts.

Your relationship with yourself shifts.

Your whole life softens.

Why We Struggle to Recognize Our In-Between

We’re human.

We’re perfection-prone.

And somewhere along the way, many of us learned to judge our worth by our numbers.

But you are not the result of a blood sugar reading.

You are a person with a chronic condition—doing your best with a constantly moving target.

Of course, you’ll get it “wrong” sometimes.

Of course, there will be days that feel like uphill battles.

But perfection was never the assignment.

Self-compassion is.

Learning is.

Recovery is.

Treating yourself rightwith graceis.

That’s what the in-between is for.

Reclaiming the Middle Ground

The real growth with T1D happens when you stop trying to police yourself into perfect control and start building systems, habits, and patterns that support your actual life—not the idealized one some people or platforms try to sell you.

The in-between becomes easier to live in when you have:

  • A grounding routine that steadies your mornings

  • A few go-to meal strategies that eliminate decision fatigue

  • A movement routine that supports your energy, not punishes your body

  • Emotional tools that help you navigate frustration, guilt, and fear

  • A safe place to unpack the “whys” behind your patterns instead of beating yourself up for them

  • Accountability that feels like partnership, not pressure

This is the work that rarely gets applauded.

It’s not flashy. It’s not dramatic.

But it is how you build a life with T1D that feels sustainable, nourishing, and honest.

And you don’t have to do any of that alone.

Where Coaching Comes In

Chronically Courageous was created for this exact space—the in-between.

Not the “before and after.”Not the “look how perfect my graph is.”Not the highlight reel.

The real reel.

The place where you are trying.

Learning.

Hoping.

Stumbling.

Recovering.

Healing.

Growing.

My work as a coach isn’t about forcing you into someone else’s version of success.

It’s about helping you embrace your favorite version of yourself—the one who feels grounded, capable, compassionate, and at home in their own life.

Not the version who always gets it “right.”

The version that knows how to navigate whatever shows up.

Together, we explore the emotional, behavioral, logistical, and lived layers of T1D that no quick tip, diet trend, or “perfect day” video can touch.

You are allowed to find peace here.

You are allowed to find ease here.

You are allowed to want a life that feels good—not just survivable.

If You’re Ready to Find Your In-Between…

If this message lands in your chest…

If you feel a little seen…

If you’re craving steadier days, softer self-talk, and fewer battles with your own expectations…

Then you’re probably ready to explore what coaching could look like for you.

Ready to find your “in-between” with T1D? Explore Chronically Courageous coaching services. I’m accepting new clients and ready to help you embrace your favorite version of yourself—not the one who always gets it “right,” but the one who loves and finds peace within themselves at every range.

You’re already doing better than you think.

Let’s build on that—together.
